Vic: Hospital refuses to reconsider surgeon's sacking

The Royal Children's Hospital has ruled out reinstating sacked surgeon Professor PADDY DEWAN.

The whistle-blowing surgeon was dismissed last night after meeting with the hospital board.

He is calling on Victorian Health Minister BRONWYN PIKE to intervene and reinstate him.

Professor DEWAN had been on forced leave since last week after going public with allegationsthe hospital is failing to deal adequately with medical mistakes.

He claims he's being made a scapegoat by a board that's not prepared to deal with widespreadbullying among hospital staff.

But the hospital's women's and children's health chair, KERRIE CROSS, says the boardwon't reverse the decision.

Ms CROSS says the committee's report into Professor DEWAN'S allegations found no evidenceof bullying or mediocre care.

She says he has been sacked because of his deteriorating relationship with his colleagues.
